Teaching is supposed to be about shaping young minds. Imparting wisdom, life lessons and skills to students who are eager to learn, respectful and attentive but for the most part these days, teachers are now given the additional responsibilities of warden, parent, psychologist, and baby sitter for a minimal salary and pitiful benefits. You plan lessons for an ever changing curriculum, that you were given no opportunity to voice your input on, only to have the IT equipment broken again. There are challenges to every career but as a teacher you have many more than most.
Many educators take second jobs, teach summer school, coach, or give private lessons to make ends meet. Living on $40,000 a year just isn't enough these days.
